Behind The Scenes of Social Media Management
Have you ever hosted a house party before? If you have then I’m sure you will know exactly what I’m saying. Managing social media is like hosting a house party; it’s not just about inviting people but making sure they’re entertained and engaged throughout with some unexpected twists & turns along the way like a clumsy friend spilling the drink on your carpet or you suddenly running out of ice while everyone’s playing a drinking game. These situations definitely require you to act quickly & swiftly to tackle the challenge. We social media managers deal with such situations daily on the digital front. You can consider us exactly like the hosts, always on our toes with our eyes everywhere to ensure the social party is a great success!
Considering the constantly growing numbers of social media users (4.9 billion social media users worldwide) who are interacting with multiple platforms each month, it becomes increasingly important for brands to have a multi-platform social media presence which is managed effectively.
As a Social Media Manager and Content Creator, I have seen both sides of the coin. Creating content independently and managing social media professionally are two very different things. However, one thing remains common; both require lots of strategy, working hours & tonnes of creativity. In one such assignment, I was working with a leading pet-care brand, and I ended up discovering a whole new set of skills within me. Creating content with cats & dogs often turned into an unpredictable adventure, filled with unexpected moments that require quick thinking and creativity while being immensely patient and calm. Once, we were shooting with a small 3 month old puppy. We wanted to take some shots of him playing with toys, but that poor fellow got tired and slept off during the shoot and then we had to wait patiently for him to wake up. I never knew I had such a great deal of patience within me haha, but seeing that puppy snooze off was also the highlight!
Currently at PRP, I work with a diverse range of clients across various industries and what seems so seamless on the online persona has a lot going on behind the scenes. Hundreds of ideas are discussed, filtered, and refined to fit the objectives and overall marketing plans before they are even sent further for creating content. A campaign that you see online is the brainchild of a great team of social media experts who worked day & night to bring it to life with some working on strategy, some scribbling content and some translating words into designs. Each such project presents unique challenges and learning opportunities that help refine my approach and keep up with the ever-evolving digital landscape.
To tell you the truth, my favorite thing about Social Media is feeling empowered, making YOUR voice heard, reaching thousands with one easily accessible touchpoint. That is the beauty of it. I recently had a chance to make a real change, as I along with my team conducted a Social Media training for a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU). We empowered the audience who were not so tech-savvy with hands-on experience of using social media to make their voices heard & presence felt in the digital world. We don’t believe in leaving people behind, instead, we walk hand-in-hand to ensure we all grow & keep up with the times together.
As social media managers, we are responsible for much more than just creating posts. Our role involves crafting effective campaigns, designing engaging content, and managing various challenges that arise. The next time you scroll through your feed, remember the effort and creativity that goes into shaping the content and interactions you see. Social media management is a dynamic field that combines strategic thinking with adaptability, making it both challenging and rewarding. If Social Media pages are the ART then consider us, Social Media Managers as the ARTISTS!
